Let's talk about abortion. I've never seen an issue so divisive. Even amongst my friends, they are all totally divided on abortion. It's unbelievable: Some of my friends think these pro-life people are annoying idiots. Other of my friends think that these pro-life people are evil *****. How are we going to come to a consensus?

I will never forget the first time I saw Bill Hicks perform. I slumped sleepily into a battered old chair and inhaled a lungful of dust. A slightly haggard looking standup walked onto the stage, paused, and shot a joke into the audience like a lone marksman. He hit the audience like a grenade, and my love affair with this murderer of pretensions began. In a world of fraudulence and banality, Bill was firestorm of fresh, electrifying talent that transformed standup comedy from a mere entertainment, into a holy crusade.

Bill Hicks was not only an expert satirist, he was a preacher and a prophet. John Lahr of the New Yorker described him as, 'A cunning comedian, probably the best informed and most articulate one I've encountered in a quarter century of writing about entertainers. He made unacceptable ideas irresistible and reminded viewers that the best entertainers are the unelected legislators of their time.' Bill died of cancer in 1994, aged 32 years. This fanlisting is dedicated most respectfully to his memory, and to his legacy.
